The NCAA released its first NET rankings of the season for men’s and women’s basketball on Monday.

It is, of course, only December 5, but the rankings are a good early barometer on where teams are and where they could go. It’s a starting point — nothing more, and nothing less.

There is a caution to them, though: Don’t worry about things like Quad 1 wins or losses or anything like that yet. What is a Quad 1 win today may not look that way when the NCAA tournament selection committee meets in March.

A look at the rankings (records are NCAA Division I games only):
