Murray Named To Preseason All-Big Ten Team

By JOHN BOHNENKAMP

Iowa’s Kris Murray was named to the preseason All-Big Ten team, released by the conference on Thursday.

It is the fourth consecutive season an Iowa player has been named to the list. Joe Wieskamp was on the 2019 and 2020 teams, Luka Garza was named the preseason player of the year in 2021, and Keegan Murray, Kris’ twin brother, was named to last season’s team.

Kris Murray averaged 9.7 points and 4.3 rebounds last season. He’s expected to move into the starting role vacated by his brother, who was the No. 4 pick by the Sacramento Kings in last summer’s NBA draft.

“He’s on a big stage,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said on Wednesday. “He can get it off the glass and push it himself. He can shoot threes when he wants. He can post-up when he wants. He’s going to be out there most of the time unless he’s in foul trouble. Like I said, he’s been really good with that defensively.

“I’ve been really impressed with him being in the right place. I’m excited for him. I think he’s excited for it, as well.”

Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis was named the conference’s preseason player of the year. Jackson-Davis, Michigan center Hunter Dickinson, and Purdue center Zach Edey were unanimous selections to the team.

Also named to the team was Michigan State forward Malik Hall, Minnesota forward Jamison Battle, Penn State guard Jalen Pickett, Rutgers center Clifford Omoruyi, Wisconsin guard Chucky Hepburn and Wisconsin forward Tyler Wahl.
