Iowa Gets Georgia Tech In ACC/Big Ten Challenge

By John Bohnenkamp

Iowa’s men’s basketball team will face Georgia Tech at home in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, the third matchup against an ACC program on the Hawkeyes’ nonconference schedule this season.

The Hawkeyes will play the Yellow Jackets at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on November 29. The game time and television network will be announced later this summer.

Iowa will play Clemson in the Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Florida on November 25. The Hawkeyes also will play Duke in the Jimmy V Classic on December 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This will be the third meeting between Iowa and Georgia Tech. The Hawkeyes won, 85-67, over the Yellow Jackets at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the second year of the Challenge in 2000. Georgia Tech defeated Iowa, 79-78, in the second round of the 2003 NIT in Iowa City.

Iowa has a four-game winning streak, and has won seven of its last nine game, in the Challenge.

The Hawkeyes return five of their top seven scorers from last year’s 26-win team that won the Big Ten Tournament. Georgia Tech, coached by Josh Pastner, won 12 games last season and returns two starters — guard Kyle Sturdivant (7.6 ppg; 2.5 rpg) and center Rodney Howard (6.5 ppg; 5.1 rpg).
