Big Ten Matchups Announced For Iowa Men, Women

By John Bohnenkamp

Iowa’s men’s basketball team will get home-and-home matchups with Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana and Wisconsin next season, but will only see Purdue and Illinois once.

Iowa’s women’s team will see Maryland and Indiana twice next season, but only Michigan and Ohio State once.

The Big Ten announced its conference single-plays and home-and-homes on Thursday, and the Hawkeyes’ schedule for the men and the women have some interesting matchups.

Iowa’s men’s team has had testy games with the rival Illini in recent seasons, but the two teams will only play once, in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes get Purdue, which figures to be among the preseason favorites in the Big Ten, only once as well, and it’s a road game.

The Hawkeyes do get two shots at Indiana, which also figures to be a favorite next season.

Iowa’s women’s team, which shared the Big Ten title with Ohio State last season, plays the Buckeyes and Michigan on the road. The Wolverines finished a half-game behind Iowa and Ohio State in the final standings.

The Hawkeyes do get Maryland, which also finished a half-game out of first place, twice, as well as Indiana, which faded in the closing weeks of the season and finished fifth.

The Big Ten schedule, with dates, times and TV coverage, will be announced later in the summer.
