Heiden Named To All-Big Ten First Team

It was at about this time last season that Iowa’s Ava Heiden started to show what she could do as a young post player in the Hawkeyes’ rotation.

That momentum carried into this season, and helped Heiden onto the All-Big Ten first team on Tuesday.

Heiden helped extend the program’s streak of having at least one first-team all-conference selection to 10 years.

Heiden, a sophomore, was selected to the coaches’ first team as well as the media’s first team after a season in which she led Iowa in points per game (17.6), field goal percentage (65.1), and double-doubles (9). She ranks fourth in Division I play in field goal percentage, and leads all power-conference players in points per game improvement over the last two seasons.

Heiden was one of six Hawkeyes honored by the conference. Senior Hannah Stuelke was a second-team honoree by the coaches and media. Sophomore Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright was on the coaches’ third team and was an honorable-mention pick by the media. Senior Kylie Feuerbach was tabbed to the all-defensive team by coaches and media for the first time in her career. Freshman Addie Deal was named to the coaches’ all-freshman team. Senior Taylor McCabe was Iowa’s sportsmanship award recipient.

It was the fourth conference season honor for Stuelke, who was the 2022-23 sixth player of the year along with second-team all-conference honors in her sophomore and junior seasons. She leads the team and is second in the conference with 8.7 rebounds per game this season while averaging 13.9 points per game. Stuelke became the seventh Hawkeye in program history to record 1,500 points and 850 rebounds in her career.

Wright leads the Big Ten in 3-point percentage (46.2) and ranks fifth nationally. Wright, who transferred to Iowa after last season, is averaging 13.9 points per game and 4.8 assists per game.

Feuerbach was touted as Iowa’s best defender all season. She has recorded 29 steals and 11 blocks this season.

Deal averaged 5.4 points and 1.2 rebounds. She was the conference’s freshman of the week twice this season.
