The Drake-to-Iowa pipeline kept flowing late Friday night with the addition of Tavion Banks.
Banks, a 6-foot-7 guard/forward, signed with the Hawkeyes to become the fifth Bulldog to join coach Ben McCollum.
Banks was a key part of McCollum’s 31-4 team at Drake this season. He was the Missouri Valley Conference’s sixth man of the year after averaging 10.1 points and 5 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Banks, who scored in double figures in 20 games this season, was also a member of the MVC’s all-tournament team after averaging 11.6 points and 7 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ three wins on the way to the tournament title.
Banks joins Bennett Stirtz, who was the Valley’s player of the year, and Kael Combs, Cam Manyawu and Isaia Howard, as former Drake players on Iowa’s roster. Forward Cooper Koch, who played for the Hawkeyes last season, returned to the team after entering the NCAA transfer portal.
