Iowa’s Clark Wins Another Wooden Award

By JOHN BOHNENKAMP

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark continued her sweep through the national player of the year awards on Tuesday, when she was named the winner of the Wooden Award for the second consecutive year.

The award, presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, goes to the top player in women’s basketball.

Clark was a finalist for the award along with Cameron Brink (Stanford), Paige Bueckers (UConn), Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), and JuJu Watkins (USC). The five players are invited to Los Angeles for the 48th annual presentation of the award on Friday.

Clark, the most dominant player in women’s college basketball over her four-year career, led the Hawkeyes to a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Final Four championship game. She led the nation in scoring at 31.6 points per game and in assists at 8.9 per game, becoming the first player to be No. 1 in both categories in back-to-back seasons. Clark ended her career as the all-time leading scorer in major college basketball, men’s and women’s.

The award was among a long list of honors for Clark this postseason. She was named the winner of the Wade Trophy, the Associated Press national player of the year, the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, the Naismith Award, the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year, the Honda Sport Award, and national player of the year honors by news outlets USA Today, ESPN, The Athletic and The Sporting News.
