WIU’s McCowan Enters Transfer Portal

By JOHN BOHNENKAMP

Western Illinois guard Raegan McCowan was the top freshman in the Ohio Valley Conference, and one of the top freshmen in the nation this season.

McCowan is now taking that experience elsewhere, announcing on Wednesday that she was entering the NCAA’s transfer portal.

McCowan started 28 games for the Leathernecks, averaging 19.4 points and 8.1 rebounds. She was the OVC’s freshman of the year and was a first-team all-conference selection after leading the conference in scoring.

McCowan ranked 31st among all NCAA Division I players in scoring, but was third in scoring among freshmen, finishing only behind USC’s JuJu Watkins and Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo. Her 45-point game against Southern Indiana on February 24 tied for the fifth highest scoring game in Division I this season and was the second-highest scoring game for a freshman.
