Clark Makes History With Another Big Ten POY

By JOHN BOHNENKAMP

Iowa’s Caitlin Clark was named the Big Ten women’s basketball player of the year on Tuesday.

That’s not really news, but, like everything else Clark does, it’s historic.

Clark won the award for the third consecutive season, joining Ohio State’s Jessica Davenport as the only players to win the award in consecutive season.

Oh, and it’s the sixth time in last seven years that an Iowa player has won the award.

Clark was also named to the all-conference first team for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the first Iowa player to do that.

Clark is once again a finalist for every major national player of the year award, most recently being named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award as the nation’s top point guard (an honor she earned the last two seasons).

Clark leads the nation in assists (8.6 assists per game) and in scoring (32.3 points per game) after becoming the first player to finish No. 1 in both categories in back-to-back seasons. She also owns a nation-leading six triple-doubles this season, giving her a conference-record 17 for her career, which ranks second in NCAA history. Clark also became the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer in men’s and women’s basketball in Sunday’s win over Ohio State.

Iowa’s Kate Martin and Hannah Stuelke were named to the all-conference second team by the conference’s coaches and media.
