Iowa guard Molly Davis is hoping to play with the Hawkeyes for the postseason as she recovers from an injury to her right knee suffered in Sunday’s regular-season finale against Ohio State.
Davis was injured with 6:39 left in the first half after she fell to the court while coming up with a steal near the Iowa basket. Davis had to be carried off the court to the Hawkeyes’ training room, and returned for the post-game Senior Day ceremony in a wheelchair.
Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said in a statement Monday night that Davis is going to undergo physical therapy to improve mobility in her knee to play in the postseason. The Hawkeyes play in the Big Ten Tournament this weekend, beginning Friday, then will begin NCAA Tournament play the following week.
“While we feel for Molly that she got injured during Senior Day, we are so thankful that the injury she sustained is not season ending,” Bluder said in the statement. “Our program has appreciated everyone’s support and prayers as we look forward to her return at some point during the postseason.”
Davis has played in 30 games, starting 27, this season. She averages 6.1 points and 2.6 rebounds, and is second on the team with 93 assists.
