Iowa Sweeps Big Ten Weekly Awards

Iowa swept the Big Ten’s weekly men’s basketball awards on Monday.

Forward Ben Krikke was named the conference’s player of the week, while forward Owen Freeman won the freshman of the week honor for the second consecutive week.

It is the first time the Hawkeyes have swept the honor since Luka Garza was the player of the week and CJ Fredrick was freshman of the week in the 2019-20 season.

Krikke averaged 24.5 points and seven rebounds in the 92-84 road loss to No. 8 Creighton and the 88-74 home win over Arkansas State. Krikke shot 66 percent from the field (21-of-32) in the two games.

Freeman averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 blocks and two rebounds, while shooting 55 percent (6-of-11).

Krikke, who transferred from Valparaiso in the offseason, leads the Hawkeyes in scoring, averaging 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and two steals per game, while shooting 61.8 percent from the field. He is second in the Big Ten in steals, third in field goal percentage and fourth in scoring. 

Freeman is averaging 9.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks.  He is shooting 60.9 percent from the field.
